Vietto

Vietto (Engl. recreation, gradient) is an architectural intervention that rises from its surrounding scenery, the nature of Tapiola. Sustaining the thoughts of WeeGee’s architect Aarno Ruusuvuori of an open space where daylight can travel, it fades the border between the inside and the outside and extends the view from the Northern glass facade.

As a counterbalance to the concrete brutalism of the former printing house, the monumental wooden platform provides room for interpretation. It can be used for a short rest by sitting at the upper end or for extended leisure after progressing towards the landscape. Because of its large surface areas, it easily serves as a platform for a variety of purposes in an exhibition centre environment.

Vietto is the result of a spatial design competition for students organised by WeeGee together with the Aalto University.
